HMRC

« Back to Glossary Index

HMRC stands for His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (now simply HM Revenue & Customs). It’s the UK government department responsible for collecting taxes, paying certain benefits, policing the minimum wage, and keeping a close eye on all things financial. If you’ve got a tax return to file, a refund to claim, or a question about allowances, HMRC is the agency you’ll be dealing with.
