Section 24 refers to the rules that restrict how much mortgage interest landlords can deduct from their rental income when working out their tax bill. Instead of deducting all the interest as an expense, landlords now receive a basic-rate tax credit. The change mainly affects higher-rate taxpayers with buy-to-let properties, making rental profits less tax-efficient than they used to be.
