A tax return is a form you submit to HMRC—usually through the Self Assessment system—to report your income, gains, and any reliefs or allowances you’re claiming. It’s used to calculate your final tax bill (or refund) for the year. Self-employed people, landlords, and anyone with complex finances usually need to file one each year.
